Chitralekha is a 1941 Indian Bollywood film, directed by Kidar Sharma, and was based on 1934 Hindi novel by the same name by Bhagwati Charan Verma. Music of film was given by noted classical musician Ustad Jhande Khan, giving popular songs like, Sun sun Neelkamal MuskayeSaiyyan Saware Bhaye Baware, and Tum Jao Bde Bhagwan Bane, Insaan Bano It was the second grossing Indian film of 1941. Khan used he used classical Ragas like Bhairavi and Asavari to film score making it an influential film for classical based Hindi film songs. This was the debut film of actor Bharat Bhushan, who later achieved fame with Bhaiju Bawra(1952).

Kumargiri is sent by Mrityunjay to try and convince Rajnartaki Chitralekha to free Samant Bijgupt from her clutches so that he can wed the later's daughter, Yashodhara. Kumargiri does meet with Chitralekha but is instead mocked, and retreats to his ashram. Shortly thereafter he gets a shock when he finds her at his abode - requesting permission to remain there and serve him. He initially refuses, but subsequently relents and permits her to live there along with other male disciples - a decision that he will rue and regret for the rest of his life.

It was remake of Chitralekha (1941) also directed by Kidar Sharma, which was the second grossing Indian film of 1941.Though unlike its previous version, this one didn't do well at the box office, critics have suggested bad script and incorrect casting as reasons

Chitralekha is a 1964 historical-philosophical Hindi film, directed by Kidar Sharma, starring Ashok KumarMeena Kumari andPradeep Kumar. It was based on 1934 Hindi novel by the same name by Bhagwati Charan Verma about Bijgupta serving under the Maurya Empire and the king Chandragupta Maurya (340 BCE – 298 BCE) and his love for courtesan Chitralekha.[1] Films music and lyrics were by Roshan and Sahir Ludhianvi and noted for his songs like, "Sansaar Se Bhaage Phirte Ho" and "Man Re Tu Kaahe"
